Back again!

It has been several months since I've been here to blog. And wow -- a lot has happened!

First of all, our daughter Alayna Katherine was born on April 15. She is a beautiful, easy-going baby. We couldn't be more blessed!
Beyond that, all other events seem secondary and insignificant. The kids are finishing up school for the year. Tony went on his annual guys' fishing trip. And I am back to work after a too-short maternity leave.
I am trying to find the best venue to continue this blog -- either here on Blogger or somewhere on MomsLikeMe.com. But as I am doing a technology presentation for my moms' group Mothers & More in a few weeks, I wanted to have an updated post to show!
Wish me luck...

Closet crisis

Every phase of pregnancy has its little quirks and nuances. Thankfully I'm passed the "sick to my stomach all the time" phase. That one is NO FUN.

I'm moving along to the "hungry at the drop of a hat" phase and "nothing in my closet fits me" phase.

I was trying to describe pregnancy hunger to my husband. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before. The closest analogy I have is after a night of drinking and you come across a Perkins or a McDonalds, and that very SECOND you simply MUST have an omelette with hashbrowns or a burger or something with grease and cheese and LOTS of it. That's about the best I can compare it to.

It's more like walking down the street, minding your own business, and WHAM! You walk smack into a brick wall. Only the impact doesn't hurt -- it just makes you light-headed, a little dizzy, somewhat queasy and RAVENOUSLY hungry. You need to eat right then and there or you might very well just pass right out. That is pregnancy hunger at its finest.

Of course, following the pregnancy hunger feeding frenzy comes the "nothing fits in my closet anymore." Luckily for me, I've been through this gig once before and have a small array of pants and tops in various sizes to get me through this transition period before a full-on maternity wardrobe becomes a necessity. The array of clothes, however, is not expansive enough to cover the changing Wisconsin weather (which can switch at the drop of a hat) or my ever-changing moods. I'm not ready to be draped in huge, baggy sweaters -- especially since this weekend the temps were in the 80s and my husband had the AC running! And I really want clothes that are comfortable, stretch-able, breathable and fashionable. Oh, and did I mention, fit really well? Wish me luck with THAT!

The pic today is of the kids and our pumpkins. We took the wimpy way out this year and grabbed our gourds from Festival foods. The pumpkin patch where we typically go must have sold out early. There was not a good selection remaining -- perhaps we waited too long?? It's finally starting to feel like FALL!

I'm back!

A while back I got a message from Blogger saying my blog had been locked. Apparently, they somehow got suspicious that this might be a "spam" blog created by a phantom Internet company or otherwise not-real person. I had to fill out some verification forms and wait for a blog review for them to determine that I am a real live mom with a real live blog! Whew! Glad I passed!!

Anyway, it's been a busy few weeks at the Broullire household. This past weekend, we went to Wauwatosa for my niece Clara's first birthday party. She did a wonderful job of smashing her birthday cake, as you can see from the picture. Atta girl!

My new position as publicity chair for the Green Bay chapter of Mothers & More is turning out to be a bit more than I initially bargained for -- I think. I'm trying to make sure I'm doing a good job of promoting the organization (a truly worthwhile group!) with some uniformity across the region. And I'm also looking for new ideas to get the word out. Exhausting!

I've also been crazy busy trying to promote the new MomsLikeMe site. We did the Taste of Home cooking show expo last week, and I met with some Oshkosh area moms on Saturday. I know that when you are trying something new, 90 percent of the effort and energy is expended in just getting off the ground. But dear lord! Can somebody please give these projects a boost?

That's it for now -- need to spend some quality time with my kids tonight. But it's good to be back blogging again!

One more thing off the ol' to-do list...

Today I finished updating our Christmas card database. (You can call me a procrastinator. It's OK -- I deserve it.)
You know that red and green basket of Christmas cards that's been sitting by my computer since January? Yeah -- I tackled it today. And it's only October! I figure I've still got at least two months to go!!
I know I am a chronic procrastinator. That's why my book has not yet been written, my closet has not yet been organized and I get a panicky feeling in my chest every time I think about cleaning out my office. Yikes!
But actually, it's OK. Because I married a guy who is a chronic UN-procrastinator. A do-it-right-now-and-get-it-over-with kind of person. Love you, Tony!!
Besides, it doesn't matter when I update the Christmas letter spreadsheet, so long as it gets finished before we go to make out our new cards this holiday season. And actually, I don't typically procrastinate on those. Last year, I had our letter written and family photo taken in late November, I believe. Not bad, huh?
There will be no room for procrastination this year, either. I just checked the list and it turns out we have 92 people to send Christmas cards to. Yes, 92!!! As in, almost 100!! Better get started!!

Gotta love Catholic preschool

As a 3-year-old, Bella is not necessarily forthcoming with all the details of her day in preschool. You would think that a little girl with a sharp memory could identify more than just "snack" from her morning at Notre Dame, but that seems to be all she can recall!

Anyway, tonight I learned that she is indeed getting some religious education mixed in with those snacks and fingerpainting.

Bella was eating dinner tonight (or, more appropriately, she was ripping the soft cheese part out of her grilled cheese sandwich and stacking the crusts in a pile) and she began singing, "God our Father, God our Father, Jesus Son, Jesus Son, Holy holy Spirit, Holy holy Spirit, three in one, three in one," over and over again to herself. It took me a verse or two to catch on to what she was saying, since she'd never sung or even mentioned the song before. But later, she did tell me she learned it at preschool.

I'm really impressed with her school, especially how much she loves going there after just a few short weeks. On Tuesday, she actually instructed Tony to leave -- this from the girl who screamed and cried on her first days!

It is also very comforting to me that she is getting exposure to a religious education. I love that they can actually celebrate Christmas and Easter in her preschool classroom. She won't get that at public school in De Pere, which is where Tony and I plan to enroll her once she hits kindergarten.

We've gone back and forth on the pros and cons of private vs. public education. And it's come down to this -- the De Pere school system is just too good to not take advantage of its free offerings; we'd rather save our kids' tuition money for college than spend it on private school during elementary/middle/high school years.

So while it's really nice that she comes home from school singing songs about the Holy Trinity, I don't expect it will last. I guess once she starts kindergarten, the religious aspect of her education is going to be up to us...

Whew!

It's harder to blog when it's not a daily requirement of your job. Did I make a mistake in not letting this blog go by the wayside with WisMoms?

Nah -- I don't think so. My mom asked me just yesterday whether I was continuing a blog. She said it was one of the easier ways to keep track of me and my family. I like blogging because I can write down here the funny little things my kids say during the day that normally I might easily forget!

Today Bella had a comment on our new car. (In case I forgot to mention it, Tony couldn't stand being a member of the one-car family. So two days after we got home from Mexico, he went out and leased a 2009 Toyota Camry.) She was asking whether we were taking the van to the Little Gym today, or if we were going to "take that Celery car."

Hmmm ... maybe Toyota can use that in its next marketing push ... even 3-year-olds can (somewhat) identify the name of a Camry...

Can't keep this blogger down...

When my Gannett moms Web site changed today from WisMoms.com to MomsLikeMe.com, the blogs did not carry over onto the new site. So I was left with (still!) a lot to say -- and nowhere to say it!
Fortunately, Blogger has its own blogging location at Blogspot.com. If you've already found me, you don't need me to tell you that my new URL is http://momslikelaura.blogspot.com
I hope to continue this blog as an extension of my WisMoms blog, in the hopes that some day MomsLikeMe and Gannett Digital will find a place on the new site for local mom blogs.
In the meantime, you can find me here!
